Don't Miss the 15th Annual West Coast Wooden Kayak Rendezvous (R2KXIII)
coming August 2 - 4, 2013

This event is about getting together to share and see, meet with friends, learn new skills, get ideas, discover new projects, paddle a little bit, and generally have a good time. There are no fees other than lodging of your choice and something to cover the cost of the shrimp and crab for Saturday's dinner (optional).

Things get started Friday afternoon with a building demo or two and boat sharing at the beach. The day finishes with a potluck dinner for those that are interested (grill available).

Saturday morning there is a grill for anything you might want to cook and Joe usually has a batch of pancakes going. The bulk of Saturday involves various construction demo's and a paddling skills session later in the afternoon. There is usually some time to test each others boats before dinner. Please make sure you get the owner's permission before trying a boat.

There is a potluck dinner Saturday night with crab and shrimp (provided for a fee) followed sometimes by a presentation.

Sunday starts off with breakfast again, more demo's, and finishes after lunch with a group paddle along shore.

It's always nice to have new faces in the line-up showing things. Please volunteer (and let Joe know in order to get it on the schedule). It can be anything remotely related, like making gear and clothing, rolling or other paddling skills demo's, cooking, cockpit outfitting, or an evening presentation (like photos of a kayak trip).

Friday 2nd
1:00	Kayak Lineup on the beach – all afternoon
2:00 – 3:30	"Laminating a Coaming Wall", "Making Soft Padeyes" "Knotless Bungee Connections" - demos - Joe Greenley
3:30 – 5:00	"Paddle About" - share each others kayaks
5:00 – 8:00	Barbecue/potluck on the beach - Bring your own meat/salad/drink/dessert etc. - We’ll provide the BBQ grill. Meet and greet other builders/paddlers. Relax and get ready for Saturday!
Saturday 3rd
7:30 – 9:00	"Pancake Potluck" - we'll provide the grill & pancakes. If you're an eggs & bacon & whatever lover, then bring them along and throw 'em on the grill (oysters invited as well)!
9:30-11:00	Photo Shoot for R2KXII – please be with your kayak at the lineup for this! - we will photograph your kayak to be included on the R2KXI Website! - Ted Henry
10:45 – 12:15	Spray Skirts - how to build your own - a discussion & demonstration - John Doornink.
12:15 – 1:00	Varnishing – get the best finish possible! – Joe Greenley
1:00 – 3:00	Sand Castle Building Contest for the Kids (tentative)
1:00 – 1:45	Lunch Break - bring your hot dogs & hamburgers to throw on our grill
1:45 - 2:30	Strip-built kayak construction – Joe Greenley
2:30 – 3:30	Fiberglassing technique - Joe Greenley
3:30 – 4:30	The “Saran Wrapped Kayak” – Peter Chopelis
4:30 – 6:00	" Test Drive that Kayak" - everyone is encouraged to share their kayak with others - this is a great opportunity to compare handling characteristics.
4:30 - 6:00	Paddling Skills Practice - edging, carving, bracing, sculling, rolling, whatever!
7:00 – 8:00	Crab & Shrimp Feed and Potluck - $TBA ($TBA children under 12) we’ll provide the meat, plates, utensils – you bring a salad, drink, and dessert etc. - Must sign up by noon !
Sunday 4th

8:30	Kayak Lineup on the beach - all day
9:00	Outfitting your Cockpit – from the seat on up
10:00	Paddle Carving Demonstration – John Doornink
11:00	Paddle to PT – shoreline paddle to Port Townsend waterfront and back
12:00	Lunch Break – again, bring your hot dogs & hamburgers to throw on the grill
1:00	Build your own kayak tie-down strap padding – free padding
2:00 – 4:30	Paddling Skills Practice - edging, carving, bracing, sculling, rolling, playing!
	(Mexican dinner at a local restaurant afterwards for those so inclined)
